Chinchilla Dentistry

Chinchilla Dentistry

We are properly equipped to perform all types of dental procedures on your chinchilla. Chinchillas have open-rooted teeth (hypsodont). This means, their teeth are constantly growing throughout their life. Dental disease can occur due to different factors like genetics, poor consumption of hay, low calcium/vitamin D3 levels, malalignment caused by trauma, abscesses and other masses. Under anesthesia, we are able to trim incisors, molar points, perform extractions and can even perform more advanced dental surgery involving abscesses of the mandible. Remember chinchillas eat most of the day. If your pet has been eating less food or stopped eating, you need to contact us right away, as this is considered an emergency in this species. Other signs to look for are swelling of the jaw and drooling.
